Matka, also known as raw silk, loosely speaking, is a thicker silk yarn woven fabric. Tussah is a thicker form generally found in neutral colors while silk matka fabric features a finer, tighter weave also referred to as a silk linen-weave or silk linen. The silk is created by warping together extracted fibers of silkworm cocoons found in the far east. Once extracted, the silk is spun together by hand without removing sericin from the fibers, which helps to keep the fabric thick while retaining its extremely soft texture.
